Do all YouTube Shorts views earn money?
No. A public Shorts view count is not the same as the eligible engaged views YouTube uses to allocate Shorts ad revenue. Monetization eligibility and content rules also matter.
What is the difference?
YouTube reports views and engaged views as different measures. Its Shorts monetization policy uses eligible engaged views when calculating payments. A public view count alone cannot tell you a video's payout.
How does Shorts revenue work?
YouTube pools revenue from ads between Shorts, allocates the creator pool based on eligible engaged views, and applies the creator's revenue share. A simple RPM scenario is useful for planning but does not recreate that allocation.
Estimate with your own data
In the Shorts calculator, enter engaged views and the Shorts RPM from your YouTube Studio analytics. Match the period for both figures. If you are not monetizing, a scenario does not imply you will be paid.
